A lottery ticket signed by John Hancock in 1767 could reach an antique valuation of up to $16,000 (£10,312) when it goes under the hammer.

The Massachusetts item is set to be sold at Invaluable Auctions in Rancho Santa Fe, California alongside other coins, autographs and currency, Paul Fraser Collectables reports.

Mr Hancock - who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 - was appointed to increasingly important offices throughout the 1770s, the publication noted.

But antique valuation seekers may be just as interested in a Four Language Ships paper, which was fully signed by former president Abraham Lincoln in 1861.

It is listed at between $10,000 and $12,500, and the auctioneer said it "appears bright, fresh and has great eye appeal".

Another famous American has recently been the subject of interest at one auction when earlier this month a US fundraiser successfully bid $90,000 for the opportunity to visit Dolly Parton's house in Tennessee.
