Annie Lennox lyrics beat antiques valuation to sell for £3,000

The money was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Antiques & Decorative Art

Lyrics handwritten by Eurythmics star Annie Lennox have outdone their antiques valuation.

The words to Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) sold for £3,000 after attracting a pre-sale estimate of £500, the Evening Express reports.

Music legend Lennox - known for tunes Why and Walking on Broken Glass, which she performed as a solo artist - donated the lyrics to a charity auction in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

And the Aberdeen-born crooner's generosity was there for all to see in at the Bonhams sale in London as the words made a four-figure sum for the cause.

This comes after lyrics written by Bob Dylan exceeded their antiques valuation as they went under the hammer for $422,000 (£270,388) earlier this month.

The words to The Times They Are A-Changin - which formed the title track to the 1964 album - had previously been expected to fetch up to $193,000 at a Sotheby's auction in New York.
