Antique appraisal seekers might be interested in 'Charles & Di cake auction'

Cake believed to be from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding is going up for auction.

Antiques & Decorative Art

A piece of wedding cake said to be from the nuptials of Prince Charles and Princess Diana is going under the hammer, those looking for antique appraisals might be surprised to hear.

The item - which is up for sale on auction site Trade Me, similar to eBay - is being sold by Katrina Greenslade from New Zealand, who claims her father came to be in possession of the foodstuff in 1981, the Toronto Sun reports.

According to the posting, one of the tiers from the cake was given to the Royal New Zealand Air Force and one-fifth ended up in Christchurch, which is where her father got the piece, which is mainly made up of icing.

Bidding for the unusual item, which could attract a high price, stops on January 19th.

The value may also be higher due to the untimely death of Princess Diana in August 1997 when she was involved in a car crash.
