An antiques valuation of between £12,000 and £16,000 has been placed on a set of 12 bottles of wine.

The items - Chateau Lafite 1945 bottles - are set to go under the hammer at Sotheby's at the end of the month.

They are among a number of alcoholic beverages going up for sale at the auctioneers' Finest and Rarest Wines & Vintage Port sale, which is expected to fetch a grand total of between £1.19 million and £1.49 million.

According to Serena Sutcliffe, worldwide head of wine at Sotheby's, the auction is set to be "a stunning array of the most iconic wines ever made that sets the bar for this first sale of the year in London".

This comes after it was revealed last month that Andrew Lloyd Webber was going to put a wine collection with an antiques valuation of $4.1 million (£2.61 million) under the hammer.
