A controversial Banksy piece of artwork depicting the characters from cartoon The Jungle Book about to be executed has been given an £80,000 antiques valuation.

The piece, which the artist created for Greenpeace, is going under the hammer at Bonhams in London next month.

The work, which the mystery street artist created for the environmental activist network's Save or Delete campaign in order to bring attention to the unnecessary cutting down of trees, was not used by Greenpeace because of copyright issues with Disney regarding its characters.

It was originally intended to be used on posters and billboards to show the plight of deforestation.

An expert from the auctioneers said: "This is a unique and large work which is typical of Banksy because it has a political message with a touch of humour."

The identity of the British graffiti artist, who is believed to have been born in Bristol, is still unconfirmed.
