Can Avedon photography accrue high art valuation?

An exclusive sale of Richard Avedon's work is to take place in Paris.

Art valuation professionals in Paris on November 20th might like to attend Avedon: Photographs from The Richard Avedon Foundation, featuring more than 60 pictures - the largest collection of his works to ever come on the market.

Hosted by Christie's, the event is taking place during the Paris Photo Festival - running from November 18th to the 21st - and it is thought that the lot, which contains snaps of both social and political icons of the 20th century, will go for over €3-5 million (£2.5-4.2 million).

"In addition to landmark images of the glamour and elegance of fashion at its most sophisticated, we have intense, commanding pictures that confront the human condition," said Philippe Garner, international head of Christie's 20th century decorative art and photographs department.

Meanwhile, Sotheby's recently held a Contemporary Art Evening Auction, which saw Yves Klein's RE 49, Relief Eponge Bleu - created at the zenith of the master's career - go for £6,210,250.
