A Darth Vader costume has been given an antiques valuation of £230,000.

The original outfit - which appeared in the Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back and consists of the iconic black mask and helmet - is set to go under the hammer at Christie's in London on November 25th.

Neil Roberts, head of the popular culture department at the auctioneers, said the character is one of the most recognized in film history, defined by his attire.

He added: "The global appeal of the Star Wars films - and the interest that the series has attracted from a number of generations - is perhaps unprecedented in the world of cinema."

What's more, some of the proceeds of the sale will go to Cancer Research UK.

Another auction set to raise money for the aid organisation sees a pink smart car made from fabric donated by a host of stars including Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs and actress Martine McCutcheon.
