Dennis Hopper artwork almost doubles antiques valuation

His collection sold for more than $10 million.

Antiques & Decorative Art

An art collection previously owned by the late Dennis Hopper has sold for over $10 million (£6.22 million), nearly double its antiques valuation.

The US actor - who starred in Easy Rider and Apocalypse Now among other films - owned 40 works, which included pieces by Andy Warhol, the New York Post reports.

Nearly half of Hopper's estate (40 per cent) is set to go to his seven-year-old youngest child Galen, while his wife Victoria Duffy has previously filed a $45 million claim against his money.

The Speed star - who died in May - also had items by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, which went under the hammer.

This comes after a canvas black and white Warhol painting was sold for more than $35 million at Sotheby's in New York earlier this month, after it attracted a previous price guide of between $20 million and $25 million.
