High sports memorabilia value for Man United ball

A high sports memorabilia price has been achieved for a famous football.

Sports Memorabilia

Anyone seeking a high sports memorabilia value might be interested in news that a leather football used for Manchester United's 1968 European Cup Final victory has been sold at auction.

The item fetched £1,700 at Eastbourne Auction Rooms in East Sussex, BBC News reports.

It was used in United's 4-1 triumph over Benfica at Wembley - the first of three European Cup successes for the Red Devils.

The ball was handed to a friend of George Best in the 1970s.

Before achieving its high auction price, the item was given an estimated value of between £600 and £800.

Best was among the 19 players who signed the leather ball, with legends of the game such as Bobby Charlton and Brian Kidd also putting their signature.

The new owner, Alfred Toft, is quoted by the news provider as stating: "I think it's a unique item and it's impossible to get another one of these and I'm very very pleased to have it."
