The HMS Invincible is set to go under the hammer with an antiques valuation of £2 million.

And it has been reported that several bids have been received for the aircraft carrier after the government put it up for sale, the BBC reports.

It was decommissioned in 2005 after being involved in the Falklands War - deploying Harrier fighters against Argentine opposition - as well as the Gulf and Balkans conflicts.

A Ministry of Defense spokesman confirmed there had been interest in the Invincible, stating "a number of bids" had been made.

The ship was launched by the Queen in 1977 after being laid down at Vickers' shipyard in Barrow in 1973.

Last year, an antiques valuation of £500,000 was placed on code breaker papers from the Second World War.

What's more, the items had been published by Alan Turing, who had the job of deciphering codes during the conflict, the BBC reported.
