A picture of former US president John F Kennedy and actress Marilyn Monroe has outdone its antiques valuation.

The photograph - which also contains Robert Kennedy - went under the hammer for more than $9,000 (£5,707) at auction yesterday (December 9th), beating its price guide of between $4,000 and $6,000.

A collection of images involving JFK were sold, raising a total of over $151,000, although the collection had an antiques valuation of just in excess of $200,000.

The snaps had been captured by White House photographer Cecil Stoughton, who is well known for his photograph of Lyndon Johnson being sworn in after JFK's assassination.

What's more, the shot of Monroe with the two Kennedy's was sealed in an envelope marked Sensitive Material - May 19, 1962.

This comes after a Playboy auction - which featured around 80 photographs, among other items - took place at Christie's auctioneers in New York earlier this week.
