Postcards

A postcard written on the Titanic has been given an antiques valuation of up to £12,000.

The item was posted by third-class passenger Eliza Johnston to her father-in-law William Johnston, but she died along with all nine members of her family during the tragedy.

The note was sent in Queenstown, Ireland three days before the vessel hit an iceberg and sank, killing 1,520 in 1912.

What's more, the piece is set to go under the hammer in Devizes, Wiltshire, alongside a 32-page brochure - which has an antiques valuation of up to £10,000 - advertising the advantages of the Titanic.

Andrew Aldridge, of auctioneers Henry Aldridge and Son - which will be selling the items - said: "It is very unusual to get a postcard like this with such excellent content and in such fine condition", the Bristol Evening Post reports.

A film was released in 1997 - titled Titanic - to commemorate the tragedy, it starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as two passengers on the ship.
