The sale of one item may inspire those seeking art valuations.

A painting discovered in a 19th century British textbook has been sold for approximately £27,486.

In news that may capture the imagination of anyone seeking art valuations, a water colour piece depicting Western Australia's first settlement has been bought by the country's National Trust, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

The publication quotes the auctioneer Silas Currie as stating: "We had unprecedented interest in this sketchbook from both English and Australia collectors as well as institutions and descendants of the Trimmer family who had originally owned the sketchbook."

Strawberry Hill, near Albany, was part of a military settlement established in 1827 and is the subject of the painting.

Those looking to sell collectibles and rarities might be pleased by the suggestion that demand for such items appears to be holding up well.

Writing for the Guardian, Mark King noted that regardless of the economic backdrop, the art valuations market "remains buoyant".
