Why celebrity hair clippings are setting high antique valuations

Popular antique valuations are increasingly coming in the form of famous people's clipped hair, it has been suggested.

Those looking for unique antique valuations might agree with one organisation's verdict on the emergence of celebrity hair clippings as a popular auction item.

According to a piece published by Paul Fraser Collectibles, such lots are attracting some of the biggest bids this year.

It observed: "Hair is the new must-have unique item of the celebrity collectibles market, with collectors already paying thousands for famous strands of brown, blonde and black."

For instance, Robert Pattinson - who stars in the Twilight vampire film saga, cut his locks short for the movie - only to have his discarded curls stolen.

The article notes that the hair has yet to resurface, speculating: "The strong suspicion is that it could soon be coming to auction."

Previously, a jar of clippings belonging to Elvis Presley fetched approximately £75,000, while a lock from the head of Che Guevara was sold alongside a scrapbook and handwritten note for £77,100.

The same organisation recently reported on other emerging trends in the auction market.

Specifically, it claimed that items relating to Beatles songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney are becoming increasingly valuable.

In fact, the site highlighted how a John Lennon autograph that was worth £695 in 2000 is now valued at £5,950.
