A series of propaganda posters from WWII - some of which feature extracts from speeches made by Winston Churchill - have been valuedand have sold at auction for £14,590. The rare collection, which went under the hammer at Wallis and Walls Auction Galleries in East Sussex, included prints from the Back Them Up range, encouraging people to join the military, the Independent reports.

Bidding clerk Lyn Hayward recalled the moment when a pair of pictures bearing the slogans Careless Talk Costs Lives and Tell Nobody - Not Even Her went for the biggest single bid of£2,700. She noted that the total amount was "well in excess of what was expected" and added that it is thought private collectors purchased the lot, although numerous museums had also expressed interest.

Auctioneer Roy Butler recently described the set as "very special", saying that "some of these posters may not have even been seen before" and all of them are in "mint condition".
