Those looking to flog some antique jewellery or wine might want to note details of one recent sale in Switzerland.

Wine & Spirits

A record price has been achieved for a six-bottle case of Frenchwine at a Christie's auction in Geneva. The 1961 Hermitage La Chapelle drink was bought by an anonymous collector from Asia for more than £10,000 per bottle, totaling £66,350. This was despite the item's £36,000 estimate prior to the event.

David Elswood, the auction house's international director of wine for Europe and Asia, revealed that the purchase represented anew world record. He also described the sheer enthusiasm seen at the auction, adding: "Two anonymous lady bidders won several of the highlights, contradicting the idea that the wine market is dominated by gentlemen."

The occasion also saw a range of antique jewellery attract the interest of buyers. Meanwhile, a glove belonging to the late Michael Jackson is expected to get a price of between $14,000 and $16,000 (£9,400 and£10,700) at a Bonhams & Butterfields sale, which may inspire those looking to sell their antique treasures.
